Are you a developer or a consultant on Progress / OpenEdge?
Both: I've been an independent developer on Progress Software (4GL) and OpenEdge (ABL) since 1992, and I also work as a consultant on audit, strategy and training assignments. Recruiters and system integrators use either term — I cover both.
Do you work across France and Europe?
Yes. I work remote-first, with occasional travel to meet clients in person (Paris, Nantes, Toulouse among others), across France and the rest of Europe.
What is the difference between "Progress Software / 4GL" and "OpenEdge / ABL"?
It's the same ERP. "PROGRESS Software" and its "4GL" language became "OpenEdge" and its "ABL" language when version 10 was released, around 2010, with a full graphical environment. I cover both naming conventions and every version, from legacy v6/v9 to recent OpenEdge environments.
Do you take on short assignments rather than full-time roles?
Yes, that's my preference : audit, training, consulting or short-term maintenance rather than a long full-time engagement.
Do you work remotely or only on-site?
I work remote-first, while travelling regularly to meet clients in person when useful — including assignments in Paris, Nantes and Toulouse.
Should I migrate my Progress/OpenEdge ERP to another system?
Not necessarily. Progress/OpenEdge is a robust, durable ERP : in most cases, maintaining and evolving it is the better option. Migration is only recommended when it's genuinely justified — that's the focus of my consulting and audit services.
Do you train in-house teams in 4GL / ABL?
Yes, I offer a "Progress / OpenEdge 4GL development and maintenance" training for in-house teams, alongside my development assignments.
